Breathing Right: How Oxygen, CO₂ , and Nitric Oxide Shape Human Physiology, Performance, and Longevity

Dr. Claas Hohmann is Medical Director of BUFF Medical Resort in Konstanz and a specialist in surgery and orthopedics with a strong focus on preventive medicine. After earning his doctorate in oxygen physiology at the University of Mainz, he completed extensive clinical training in Switzerland, Frankfurt, and the Lake Constance region. For more than two decades, he served as Medical Director of the renowned Wolfart Clinic near Munich, where his experience in conventional medicine led him to recognize its limitations, particularly in the treatment of chronic disease.

In response, Dr. Hohmann expanded his expertise to include nutritional medicine, sports medicine, orthomolecular medicine, and F.X. Mayr therapy, guided by a deep commitment to optimizing metabolic health — from digestion and energy metabolism to muscle strength and endurance — always grounded in scientific evidence and a comprehensive understanding of human physiology.

Since 2023, he has been shaping the medical philosophy of BUFF Medical Resort, bringing to life a holistic and forward-thinking vision of health that integrates physiology, movement, and preventive care.

At the Longevity Med Summit 2026 in London, he presents his talk on “Breathing Right: How Oxygen, CO₂, and Nitric Oxide Shape Human Physiology, Performance, and Longevity.”

In this session, Dr. Hohmann explores the powerful interplay between oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitric oxide — a “molecular trinity” that regulates oxygen delivery, blood flow, immune defense, and cellular energy metabolism. By understanding how these respiratory gases work together, he highlights new pathways for improving physical and cognitive function while supporting long-term vitality.

He will examine how conscious breathing techniques can enhance nitric oxide uptake, maintain optimal CO₂ levels, and improve oxygen efficiency, with practical applications ranging from stress reduction and better sleep to enhanced performance and preventive longevity strategies.
