A Revolution in Medicine: The Science Behind the Cure
Dr. Deepak Srivastava, President of Gladstone Institutes, Director of the Roddenberry Stem Cell Center at Gladstone, Pediatric Cardiologist in UCSF’s Benioff Children’s Hospital. San Francisco, CA, United States
Advances in stem cell biology and use of CRISPR gene-editing technology make it possible to read and write the human genome, thus controlling human cells almost at will. The integration of these tools with artificial intelligence is revealing not only how genetic variation leads to disease but also how precision medicine can become a reality to prevent and cure disease to increase healthspan.
Objectives of this session:
– Recognizing how AI is allowing us to understand the code of life and its relationship to health.
– Understanding how stem cell biology is revealing human disease mechanisms and new approaches for prevention and cures.
– Understand how genetic and epigenetic alterations cause disease and how they can be corrected by gene editing.
– Recognize how healthspan can be increased by early detection and intervention.
Widely recognized as a cardiologist and stem-cell pioneer, Dr. Srivastava leads research exploring gene networks that guide heart development and novel approaches to repairing heart damage. His leadership has been noted for bridging nonprofit research and the biotech sector while advancing innovative biomedical science.
Dr. Srivastava leads an elite biomedical research institute focused on heart, brain, viral and immunologic diseases, leveraging cutting edge technologies and data science to overcome some of humankind’s most devastating conditions. In addition to overseeing Gladstone, Dr. Srivastava has identified several genetic causes of human heart disease and developed novel approaches for heart regeneration. He has co-founded several biotechnology companies in the Bay Area to advance discoveries into clinical trials.
Deepak Srivastava is President of Gladstone Institutes, Director of the Roddenberry Stem Cell Center at Gladstone and is an attending pediatric cardiologist in UCSF’s Benioff Children’s Hospital.
