The Concept of Wellness Age: A New Meaningful Metric from Big Data

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Silvano Zanuso for his talk, “The Concept of Wellness Age: A New Meaningful Metric from Big Data.”

Dr. Zanuso is the Scientific Research & Communication Director at Technogym and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. He holds degrees in Exercise Science, a Master of Science, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Exercise Physiology, and his research focuses on the impact of physical activity and exercise on metabolic disorders. Throughout his career, he has published extensively in leading scientific and clinical journals, advised governments and public institutions on health promotion, and delivered conferences and educational programs in more than twenty countries.

Today, Dr. Zanuso will explore a compelling question at the heart of longevity science: how do we truly define age? While individuals may share the same chronological age, their biological condition, functionality, and health can differ dramatically. Advances in molecular research—such as epigenetic clocks that estimate age through DNA methylation—have helped scientists better understand the aging process.

Building on these insights, Dr. Zanuso will introduce the concept of “Wellness Age,” a meaningful metric derived from functional measures including aerobic capacity, strength, flexibility, balance, cognitive abilities, and body composition. Leveraging big data and innovative assessment tools, this approach offers a more comprehensive picture of how our bodies function and how personalized, precision training can support healthier aging.
